On Friday, Dec. 13, Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Warrior fans dressed in their favorite Christmas attire as they filled the stands of school’s Wilmer Bassett Gymnasium to cheer on the Warriors for the Silent Night and Teddy Bear Toss games.
As the Varsity Lady Warriors game started, fans anxiously awaited the first three-pointer to be made by the home team or the Wewahitchka Lady Gators. As soon as the first three was made, fans went wild and began to throw new stuffed animals onto the court. Due to the abundance of stuffed animals that filled the court, the game was temporarily stopped as players and cheerleaders collected around 160 stuffed animals!
Half of the stuffed animals collected were donated to the Jefferson Outreach for Youth (J.O.Y) Annual Toy Drive for Jefferson County, and the other half were sent home with the visiting Wewahitchka, Fla. team to distribute to families this Christmastime who are still recovering from Hurricane Michael. Both teams played a great game, but the Lady Warriors came out on top, securing the victory, 50-31.
After the conclusion of the Varsity girls’ game, the Varsity boys’ team took the court and began warming up to face a visiting team from Cedar Key, Fla. The crowd was completely silent as the game began and all that could be heard was the players’ shuffling feet on the gym floor. As soon as the Warriors scored their tenth point, Warrior fans leaped up onto their feet and began to cheer ferociously for the Warriors.
The boys’ team also secured the victory with a 75-53 win over the Cedar Key Sharks.
When asked about the night, Head boys’ basketball coach and ACA Athletic Director, Dan Nennstiel replied saying, “It was a night full of Christmas spirit and competition. While there are many fun activities that we have going on during this night of basketball every year, I was pleased at the level in which the Warrior teams performed. The Warrior fans never cease to amaze me with their support and their ability to pack out a gym! The support of the fans really makes a difference when it comes to the atmosphere of the competition at hand."
ACA would like to say “thank you” to all the Warrior fans and supporters for all they do for ACA athletic programs. ACA would also like to thank those who brought new stuffed animals for the Teddy Bear Toss as those donations are going to be a huge blessing to those in Jefferson County as well as in Wewahitchka.
