Multiple calls to the Tallahassee Regional Communication Center were received in reference to a white Ford SUV that was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 around mile marker 228. The calls were transferred to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center, where complainants stated the reckless driver, later identified as Kristen Billings, 32, of Monticello, was swerving between lanes, traveling at roughly 25 miles per hour and not allowing vehicles to pass. As well, Billings was crossing the interstate between east and westbound lanes, at least six times, and swerving toward vehicles that attempted to pass her.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers arrived in the area when Billings intentionally rammed into a patrol car causing it to become disabled. Another vehicle was also reported being hit by Billings during the incident.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies and Sheriff McNeill arrived on scene where Billings was maneuvered off the interstate. In Billings multiple attempts to reenter onto the highway, Jefferson County Sheriff Mac McNeill conducted a successful PIT Maneuver. This kept Billings off of the interstate and immobilized her so she was unable to gain access back onto the road.
FHP conducted a field sobriety test, in which Billings failed. After a search of the vehicle, narcotics were found and Billings was taken into custody without further incident and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
