HISTORY OF MONITCELLO NEWS/JEFFERSON JOURNAL

The Monticello News was first published as a weekly newspaper in 1869, and has continually been in print since then.
In 1984, the newspaper began publishing twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Publisher Emerald Greene purchased the Monticello News from former publisher Ron Cichon, July 1, 2007, and the paper is published every Wednesday.

In August, 2007, The Jefferson County Journal was born, and published on Fridays. Both papers are available in boxes around town throughout the week of publication.

The papers are owned by ECB Publishing, Inc. (DBA) Monticello News, and Jefferson County Journal. In January, 2009, ECB Publishing, Inc. moved to its current location at 180 West Washington Street, on the Courthouse Circle, following the purchase and renovation of the building, to house the newspaper office.
