Independence Day celebrations light up Monticello

Fireworks were ablaze after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 4 at Tiger Stadium, with hundreds of onlookers oohing and aahing as each new display was set off. Bubba Bullock's roadworks seems to grow and get better each year. Thank you Bubba and you crew for the awesome fireworks extravaganza this year!
The day began early with American Legion volunteers setting up the concession stand, Richard Connell delivered his GFAST military vehicles and staging area and Bubba Bullock's crew arriving early to set up for the evening program and show.
Boiled peanuts, French fries with cheese, hotdogs chips, and cold drinks were abundant and served by the American Legion Post 49 members, Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary Units 49.
On this Independence Day, Americans celebrated their country’s freedom with fireworks, friends, and family. Amidst the fanfare, guests were asked to pause to remember the true cost of freedom. We are fortunate to live in the land of the free because of the brave.
The American Legion entities thank the courageous men and women who fought. and continue to fight, at home and abroad, along with their families who sacrificed beside them to allow us the privilege to live in the United States of America.
Thank you also to all those who contributed throughout the year to make this one of the best celebrations ever!
