Jefferson County’s children and sophisticated young ladies will take the stage this Saturday, June 5, for a chance to become part of Jefferson County’s next “royal family.”
The “Tiny to Princess” pageant will be held at the Monticello Opera House, located at 185 W. Washington St., on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The audience will watch as children, ranging from ages two through 12 years-old, will put on their best attire and smile in order to compete in their various age categories. Queens and Kings and their respective courts will be named.
General admission is $5 and children three and under are free. VIP tickets (first three rows of seating) are being sold for $15 and can be purchased on-line at monticellowatermelonfestival.com or the day of the pageant (if still available).
Saturday afternoon will find the audience captivated by the Miss and Junior Miss contestants vying for the coveted annual Miss and Junior Miss Watermelon Queen titles. The pageant will begin at 4:00 p.m., also at the Monticello Opera House, with all the contestants performing a 70’s themed opening number, in celebration of the 70th Watermelon Festival anniversary. As the afternoon unfolds, family and friends will watch as all the contestants compete in a promotional video of Jefferson County competition, a personal showcase/talent competition and an evening gown competition with a personal on-stage interview question.
This annual fun-filled day will conclude with the grand finale of the crowning of the new 2021 Miss and Junior Miss Watermelon Queens.
Special awards are also being presented for: Best Promotional Video, Best Personal Showcase/Talent, Best Evening Gown and Miss Congeniality.
Vying for this year’s Miss Watermelon Queen are Kayla Burns, Ella Grace Conrad, Cheyenne Davis, Esther Fulford, Isabella Gray, Riley Hamrick, Anna Grace Key, Jenny Nogal and A’syria Shuler.
And competing for the title of Junior Miss Watermelon Queen is Alexis Baker and Shelby Howard.
But, the most exciting part this year is that the 2021 Miss Watermelon Queen will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship.
